CHAIR BASED YOGA

Perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy all the benefits of yoga but prefers to avoid getting up and down from/to the floor, perhaps due to illness, injury or for some other reason.  All the elements of a traditional yoga class (including modified posture work using different props and breathing exercises and meditation aimed at quietening and calming the mind) but practised seated in a chair for support or using the chair itself as a prop.  Also suitable for wheelchair users.    These sessions are currently offered on a one to one basis online only.

mixed ability yoga

A fully rounded yoga class, incorporating posture work, breathing practices exploring how we can use our breath to support us both on and off the mat and meditation and relaxation techniques aimed at calming and quietening the mind.  We also look at how the teachings of the ancient wisdom traditions can be applied to our contemporary lives.  Students work at their own pace, with variations and modifications offered and the use of props encouraged.  Suitable for all levels, from beginners to more experienced students.

gentle yoga

A traditional yoga class but we take things nice and slow, making use of lots of props and modifications to ensure that poses are accessible even if you have some mobility issues (for example, some postures can be adapted so that you can do them sitting on a chair or standing against a wall, rather than on the floor).  In addition to posture work, breathing practices and meditation aimed at quietening and calming the mind also feature.  Ideal for students looking for a more gentle yoga class.

restorative yoga

We all need rest. But many of us have forgotten how to rest properly. We often find stillness positively uncomfortable, both on a physical and mental level.

In Restorative yoga, we use props to support the physical body in positions of comfort and ease for 5 to 20 minutes at a time to facilitate a deep relaxation response. This opens the door for the brain and senses to quieten and for us to completely let go.

When practised regularly, Restorative yoga has been demonstrated to help heal the effects of chronic stress and improve general wellbeing.

Restorative yoga can be practised by anyone, including complete beginners and those with ongoing illness and/or recovering from injury or surgery.

These sessions are currently offered on a one to one basis online.

yin yoga

Yin yoga is a slow, mindful practice. The emphasis is on cultivating stillness and attention as we stay in shapes for significant periods of time.

Most shapes are seated or lying on the floor and generally held for between 3 to 5 minutes. As we relax into the shapes, we stress the deep connective tissue of the body, which can help to lubricate and strengthen the joints and less both physical tension and mental stress.

The practice can be a very meditative one, helping us to develop greater awareness and to cultivate more compassion and generosity …towards ourselves and others.

Yin yoga is suitable for all levels, including beginners.
